A Visit To Water Orton

Friday 3rd August saw myself, Steve C and Lee R take a visit up to Water Orton to do some photography as I had just purchased a new Tamron 70-300mm lens and wanted to try it out.

We arrived just after 9am and stayed until just before 5pm. Not the busiest day for freight but some good loco variety with class’s 31, 47 and 56 seen.

First Double Headed 66 This Year On Bridgwater Flask

Today, Thursday 17th May saw the first DRS double headed class 66 working on the Bridgwater Flask train.

A visit to the yard and station to catch the locos shunting and its departure. 19 images currently on my home page. No video today.

Bridgwater Flask Today Sees Two DRS 57′s

It was nice to pop down to the yard at Bridgwater today, 14th May to see DRS 57′s 57003 and 57008 on the Bridgwater to Crewe flask working.

A 7 minute video can be viewed of the shunting and the departure with plenty of white clag!

47739 6E07 Washwood Heath – Boston Docks

The main reason for visiting Water Orton yesterday was to see Colas Rail’s class 47 working the 6E07 Washwood Heath to Boston Docks and the loco in charge was 47739.

The train was running early and passed through the station at 12:17 nearly catching us unaware as we were busy eating fish n chips from the chippy!

60007 Powers The 6E41 Westerleigh-Lindsey Tankers Through Water Orton

A 260 mile round trip yesterday to see some freight, especially the Washwood Heath – Boston 47 and this one, the 6E41 Westerleigh – Lindsey Oil Tanks.

Due to come through Water Orton at around 14:41, this working was re-timed and eventually came through at 16:01 then we left Water Orton for the dash home to see if we could capture 60044 & 60100 coming through Bridgwater Station which we did with minutes to spare!

66067 Heads Through Highbridge On St.Blazey Tankers

Its been a while since I’ve been out with the camera so today I got the nod from Lee that 66067 was due down around 16.00 on the tankers to St.Blazey.

The loco is seen heading through Highbridge Station at 16:20. Thanks to the driver for the friendly horn tone.

70000 ‘Britannia’ Whistles Through Highbridge Station

My first ‘Kettle’ through my local station for the year and this was 70000 ‘Britannia’ seen whistling under the road bridge en route to Bishops Lydeard.

Evening Dash To The Station To Catch The 6C39 China Clay

Thursday 8th March saw EWS livery shed 66206 passing through Highbridge Station at 19:50 on the 6C39 China Clay working.

56302 + 47375 Into Highbridge Loop On Return Journey

I was at Highbridge Station this afternoon to capture the return Par – Burton working especially as 56302 was leading. Arrived at the station in plenty of time to set up video camera and decided to park myself at the end of the down platform, which turned out to be a costly mistake!

The good news was that 56302 + 47375 were routed into Highbridge Loop in order to let a XC Voyager pass, so it remained in the loop for some good 8-10 minutes. From the video, you can see the driver get out to speak to Bristol panel and his other crewe members who were in the back of the cab joined him for a quick chat in front of 56302.

Just as the locos were heading out of the loop, unfortunately for me, a southbound XC HST was fast approaching and I feared the worse! You can hear the horn of the HST on approaching as I was right up against the yellow line filming. A quick acknowledgement to him that I knew he was coming, I then tried to photograph the locos powering away whilst still filming. This is when you need four hands!

Oh well, as you gathered from the video, the HST got right in the way! – Shit Happens! as they say.
